Route 66 came down through the Cajon Pass and into San Bernardino on its way from Chicago to the Pacific. The highway was commissioned in 1926 and carried generations of travelers west. Reminders remain along the old alignment, including the Wigwam Motel on Foothill Boulevard, where guests still sleep in concrete tepees built in 1949.
